Last year was the first time the world started hearing of the piracy off Somalia. The motive was out there right from the get go, all the pirates wanted was money. They had no interest in the ships/crew/cargo. To me it just seems like a great businees idea from some very smart people. Wonder what sort of start up capital they required.
The world community has yet to wake up to this; as no fare paying passenger has got their feet wet, yet. Once that happens then perhaps we can expect some incisive action. As long as it is just crews and ships who cares, apart from our families.
First time an American crew feels the pain of piracy, and the USA shows the world how to deal with it. BRAVO. Well done, and I hope u will do it again. Also a well done to the French, for quick and surgical take out of these modern day terrors of the sea.
What actions are there by governemnts of other countries whose seafarers are held captive by the pirates. If there are any, I have no knowledge of them. The Indian navy did shoot something down-was it a fishing boat or pirates???
I have absolutely no interest in the whys of this piracy.
My life is directly affected by it. And as far as I know, I have done nothing to raise the Somalian ire. Why are they after me and my crew? I think I can safely say,I ask this on behalf of all seafarers.
